Les médias s’étaient particulièrement intéressés au match de boxe qui a opposé, dans la nuit de samedi à dimanche, l’américain Floyd Mayweather au philippin Manny Pacquiao.
Présenté anticipativement comme « le match du siècle » alors qu’il a finalement déçu les amateurs de ce sport, cet affrontement a généré un record de plus de 400 millions de dollars de revenus, notamment grâce aux trois millions d’achats de vidéo à la demande (VOD).
Mais c’est avec étonnement qu’on a vu la presse israélienne s’enthousiasmer pour le perdant du match, Manny Pacquiao. Pourquoi cet intérêt particulier pour ce boxeur philippin ?
Parce que Manny Pacquiao, protestant évangéliste, par ailleurs député mais aussi chanteur à ses heures perdues, serait un grand admirateur de l’Etat d’Israël, au point avoir appelé son cinquième enfant… Israël.
Fasciné par le judaïsme, Manny Pacquiao a même affirmé à un journaliste israélien avoir posé une mézouzah à chacune des portes de sa maison. La mézouzah, qui signifie « poteau de porte » en hébreu, est un rouleau de parchemin comportant des passages de la Torah, inséré dans un boîtier fixé au linteau des portes d’une habitation.
