Alors que nous commémorerons le 11 novembre 2018 le centenaire de l’Armistice qui a clôturé la Grande Guerre de 1914-1918, Emmanuel Macron a décidé qu’il n’y aurait ni défilé ni parade militaire, « une expression trop militaire » pour les cérémonies qui se dérouleront en présence d’Angela Merkel.
La décision a été révélée par Jean-Dominique Merchet sur son blog « Secret défense ». Le journaliste indique que, le jeudi 18 octobre, Emmanuel Macron a abordé le programme de « l’itinérance mémorielle et territoriale » du 11 novembre. « Le sens de cette commémoration, ce n’est pas de célébrer la victoire de 1918. Il n’y aura pas de défilé ou de parade militaires », selon une source élyséenne.
Par ailleurs, Emmanuel Macron a également écarté la proposition de l’état-major qui souhaitait rendre un hommage officiel aux maréchaux français héros de la Grande Guerre, ce qui incluait nécessairement le Maréchal Pétain.
