Au Luxembourg, si l’euthanasie s’est banalisée, en revanche l’avortement reste un sujet tabou. Réussir à se faire avorter dans ce pays tient de l’exploit car il n’y a qu’un seul « médecin » nommé Kaddour Annane pour pratiquer ce genre d’activité ; ceci pour une population totale de 530.000 habitants. Ce praticien dirige le Planning familial dont il vient de démissionner s‘estimant trop vieux et fatigué. Il cherche un avorteur remplaçant et n’en trouve pas. L’IVG ne se pratique pas en milieu hospitalier. Elle est dépénalisée depuis 2012 jusqu’à 12 semaines de grossesse, ce qui correspond à la fin de la croissance embryonnaire. L’encadrement en est très strict avec de nombreuses conditions restrictives notamment en ce qui concerne l’entretien préalable. Hors de ce cadre strict il est lourdement pénalisé. De même l’objection de conscience des praticiens et auxiliaires médicaux est totale.
Seulement un petit quart des avortements concerne les Luxembourgeois de souche ; ceux-ci sont d’ailleurs minoritaires dans leur pays car ayant eux-mêmes eu très peu d’enfants depuis la guerre de 1940. Seuls les gynécologues peuvent pratiquer ce genre de travail. Aucune statistique officielle n’existe. La seule chose qui se dit est que le nombre des IVG est en pleine régression.
Malgré une mentalité généralisée très matérialiste et utilitariste, l’influence de la religion catholique est restée très forte. En revanche l’Eglise a avalisé l’euthanasie en acceptant de donner les derniers sacrements aux malades en fin de vie avant le geste fatal qui se pratique en clinique.
Par ailleurs, le laxisme sexuel régnant de plus en plus en Europe n’existe pas. Le grand quotidien du pays le Luxemburger Wort est resté profondément catholique car dépendant la Société Saint Paul Luxembourg qui est de loin le plus grand éditeur et imprimeur du pays : notamment il publie pratiquement tous les quotidiens. Ces données m’ont été confirmées par ma famille, mon père -naturalisé Français en 1946- étant originaire de ce pays.
