La Sainte tunique, baignée du Précieux Sang du Christ lors de sa douloureuse Passion est actuellement portée à la vénération des fidèles depuis le vendredi Saint en la basilique Saint Denys d’Argenteuil.
Elle y restera exposée jusqu’au dimanche 10 avril.
Une histoire à l’image du Christ
Selon une ancienne tradition, la très Sainte Vierge aurait elle-même tissé la tunique du Sauveur qu’elle a constitué en un seul morceau.
Retrouvée au IVème siècle par Sainte Hélène, mère de l’empereur Constantin, la Tunique est conservée à Constantinople jusqu’au VIIIème siècle. Entrée en possession de l’impératrice Irène de Constantinople au début du IXème siècle, celle-ci l’offre à Charlemagne. Ce dernier la confiera à sa fille Théodrade, moniale au couvent d’Argenteuil.
Après la mort de Charlemagne, les invasions vikings vont déferler sur la France et la Sainte Tunique sera cachée dans un mur du monastère avant leur arrivée puis redécouverte sous le règne de Louis VII.
Par la suite, elle échappera aux huguenots lors de la prise d’Argenteuil en 1567, mais sera partiellement brûlée.
Pour la prémunir de nouvelles attaques, cette fois-ci de la part des révolutionnaires, le curé d’Argenteuil la découpa en plusieurs morceaux et la cacha dans son jardin avant d’être emprisonné en 1793 durant deux ans. Ayant retrouvé la liberté en 1795, il n’en recouvrera qu’une partie et fera recoudre les différents fragments.
Son histoire tumultueuse ne s’arrête pas pour autant. En décembre 1983, la Sainte Tunique est dérobée. Un groupe anarchiste en revendique le vol, mais sera vite considéré peu crédible par les enquêteurs. Elle sera rendue deux mois plus tard après qu’un inconnu ait proposé au curé de la paroisse de la restituer à condition de conserver le secret sur le nom des ravisseurs.
La dernière ostension qui eut lieu en 1984 a vu défiler 80 000 personnes.
Ce lundi 28 mars, un pèlerinage en bateau est organisé au départ de Paris. Une messe a préalablement été célébrée à la chapelle Notre Dame de la Consolation à 9h00 par M. l’abbé Bouchacourt.
