L’Observatoire du Journalisme (ojim.fr) signale la mobilisation de nombreux journalistes pour tenter d’obtenir la liberté conditionnelle pour Julian Assange.

JULIAN ASSANGE A MAINTENANT COMPARU IL Y A PLUS DE TROIS MOIS AUPRÈS DE LA COUR DE WOOLWICH (GRANDE-BRETAGNE) DEVANT LA JUGE VANESSA BARAITSER. QUELQUES INFORMATIONS SUR LE PROCÈS, CE QUI S’EST PASSÉ DEPUIS ET CE QUE L’ON DOIT ATTENDRE DANS LES MOIS À VENIR.

UNE COMPARUTION EXCEPTIONNELLEMENT SÉVÈRE

La cour de Woolwich est inscrite dans le périmètre adjacent de la prison de haute sécurité de Bellmarsh où est détenu Assange. Elle est conçue pour les procès des grands criminels. Accès très limité pour le public et les journalistes, le détenu est isolé sur plusieurs côtés par une paroi de verre à l’épreuve des balles et ne peut donc converser avec ses défenseurs. Une cour qui ressemble assez largement à la prison de Guantanamo où les Américains détiennent les prisonniers soupçonnés de terrorisme sur le territoire des États-Unis.

Un dispositif dit de « sécurité » qui pré-indique déjà les formes du jugement ou son environnement, Assange est (doit être) traité comme un terroriste. Rappelons qu’Assange n’est plus détenu en Angleterre pour de fausses accusations de viol en Suède (les poursuites ont été abandonnées) mais pour ne pas s’être présenté à la porte de la prison (il avait été libéré sur parole) dans le cadre de cette accusation mort-née. Il risquait alors et risque toujours l’extradition vers les États-Unis. Cette extradition signifierait alors la prison à vie, au mieux si l’on ose dire.

DEUXIÈME PARTIE DU PROCÈS REMISE

La juge a renvoyé – coronavirus aidant – la suite au 7 septembre 2020, on ne sait si cette seconde phase aura lieu devant la même cour et au même endroit. Ce qui est certain c’est que les demandes d’assignation à résidence sous contrôle policier ont été refusées, alors que Assange, malade, dépressif, est dans une santé plus qu’incertaine, malgré les demandes de près de 1500 journalistes de 99 pays.

Sa compagne et mère de ses deux enfants, l’avocate Stella Moris, a décidé d’apparaître publiquement après que la juge lui ait refusé le bénéfice de la protection de son identité. Elle a publié en anglais dans le quotidien espagnol El País une tribune sur sa situation. Précisant comment une agence privée américaine avait fait suivre sa mère, tenté de faire des vérifications sur l’ADN de ses enfants, espionné Assange à l’ambassade d’Équateur à Londres.
