Royaume-Uni – Le thème de l’immigration a dominé les dernières étapes de la campagne électorale. En fin de semaine dernière, le leader du Parti travailliste Ed Milliband avait le culot de publier une tribune publicitaire dans les médias pour affirmer que seul son parti pourrait proposer une politique migratoire qui ne soit pas déstructurante pour la population et qui soit réaliste. Ed Millibrand accusait le Premier ministre sortant David Cameron d’avoir formulé des promesses intenables. Mais c’est vers le Ukip, le parti souverainiste de Nigel Farage, que nombre de Britanniques pourraient se tourner pour signifier leur mécontentement et leur peur devant cet afflux de nouveaux immigrés.
Le BNP est sans aucun doute le parti qui tient le discours le plus radical contre l’immigration et l’islamisation de la Grande-Bretagne mais il dispose de peu de moyens pour se faire entendre.
« Selon les sondages, la majorité des Britanniques affirment vouloir voir l’immigration diminuer mais cela est vrai depuis plus de vingt ans ; ce qui a changé récemment c’est que l’arrivée de migrants s’est accélérée et que les sondages montrent que les électeurs ne font pas plus confiance aux conservateurs pour endiguer le phénomène, alors que dans les années 1990, c’était le cas », précise Madeleine Sumption, directrice de l’Observatoire des migrations de l’Université d’Oxford.
