Le New York Daily News nous apprend que Kristin Rightnour, ancienne responsable du marketing chez Tiffany & Co, a déposé une plainte contre la société de joaillerie pour licenciement abusif et discriminatoire.
Kristin Rightnour, 35 ans, a commencé comme directrice du marketing chez Tiffany & Co. en octobre 2013.
Mais en août 2014, le directeur des ressources humaines de la firme fait savoir qu’un collègue s’est plaint de Kristin Rightnour, affirmant que cette fervente catholique aurait dit que « le peuple juif a tué Jésus ».
Il s’agit d’une conversation avec un collègue juif et un collègue catholique aux alentours des célébrations de Pâques, en avril 2014. Le New York Daily News précise que le collègue juif « n’avait pas exprimé de gêne » mais avait déclaré : « Ils ne nous apprennent rien de tout cela à l’école hébraïque ! » au cours de la discussion. A la suite de cette plainte, Kristin Rightnour a fait l’objet d’une mise en probation pour une période d’un an, et a finalement été licenciée en août 2015.
Les avocats de Kristin Rightnour soulignent que « sa religion était connue de ses collègues » et que ce qu’elle a expliqué est « en effet une croyance catholique standard ». Ils considèrent que son licenciement relève d’une discrimination en raison de sa religion.
