Syrie – Les djihadistes de l’Etat Islamique ont détruit une partie de l’Eglise de Saint-Elian à Qaryatayn, au Sud-Est de Homs. Ils ont aussi profané et détruit le mausolée de Saint Elian.
Saint Elian, originaire de Homs, fut martyrisé pour son refus de renoncer au christianisme en l’an 284.
L’église avait été fondée sur plan en l’an 432 et un sarcophage contenait les reliques de Saint Elian dans une petite chapelle placée dans la crypte de l’église. La crypte abritait aussi des fresques du XIIème siècle.
Selon une source sur place, le prêtre qui officiait sur place aurait été assassiné.
