Les cinq journalistes travaillaient pour la chaîne libyenne Barga TV et ont été retrouvés morts près de la ville de El Beïda à l’est de Benghazi. Faradj Al-Barassi, un des chefs de l’armée libyenne impute leur assassinat à l’Etat Islamique qui sévit en Libye et n’a pas précisé quand ils ont été assassinés. Mais pour la fédération internationale des journalistes(FIJ), ces cinq journalistes ont été assassinés «récemment ». Parmi les cinq journalistes, il y a quatre libyens et un égyptien.

Rappelons qu’ils avaient été enlevés depuis le mois d’août 2014 juste après la ville de Tobrouk où ils avaient été couvrir la nouvelle Assemblée élue en juin 2014.
