Un rapport du FBI vient d’être rendu public et concerne le taux de criminalité dans les villes américaines sur la période 2010-2015. En 2016 (donc hors rapport), il y a eu à Chicago 762 morts, soit plus que New York et Los Angeles réunies et plus de morts entre 2001 et novembre 2016 que de soldats américains tués lors des campagnes d’Irak et d’Afghanistan.
Le tableau ci-dessous montre les 19 villes les plus dangereuses des Etats-Unis en ce qui concerne le nombre de meurtres. Le taux est celui de morts par million d’habitants. Le tableau donne aussi la répartition ethnique de la ville dans ses principales composantes, les lecteurs en tireront la conclusion qu’ils voudront…

Notons que New-York et Los Angeles ne sont pas dans ce classement, d’une part à cause d’une population très élevée qui fait d’autant baisser le ratio, d’autre part, en ce qui concerne New-York, grâce à une politique très répressive en matière de criminalité. Le 26 novembre 2012, New-York s’offrit sa première journée sans meurtre et sans viol (pendant très exactement 2215 minutes) Mieux encore, elle établit une série consécutive de 12 jours en 2015. Le taux de meurtres dans « Big Apple » en 2011 était tombé à son niveau de 1963… et est 7 fois inférieur à celui des années 1990. Mieux, à partir de 2013, il est tombé en-dessous du niveau de 1928…
