Etats-Unis – La communauté juive multiplie les initiatives pour contrer la politique de Donald Trump visant à réduire l’immigration illégale. L’Union pour le judaïsme réformé a diffusé vendredi un communiqué recommandant que ses congrégations et synagogues offrent refuge et aide « à tous les migrants courant le danger d’une expulsion ».
Le rabbin Jonah Pesner, qui préside le Centre d’Action Religieuse considéré comme l’aile politique du judaïsme réformé, appelle les synagogues qui n’aident pas encore les migrants à commencer à le faire.
« Aujourd’hui, nous recommandons vivement aux congrégations de protéger les immigrants sans papier susceptibles d’être expulsés en adoptant un plan qui permettra d’offrir des ressources, un refuge temporaire, une aide légale ou toute autre forme de soutien à ceux qui en ont besoin. »
« Il y a des synagogues réformées dans tout le pays qui soutiennent et protègent d’ores et déjà les sans-papiers risquant d’être reconduits à la frontière au sein de leurs communautés, et par cette résolution, nous espérons que d’autres encore se joindront à cette mission sacrée. »
Quelques jours auparavant, un rassemblement juif était organisé à Washington en faveur de l’accueil des immigrés. Mais à peine quatre cents personnes ont répondu à l’appel de l’HIAS, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, organisation qui milite pour l’ouverture complète des frontières et compte sur le soutien d’un millier de rabbins.
