Dix pays sont considérés comme des réservoirs en matières premières :
1 – Russie : 75.000 milliards de $
2 – Etats-Unis : 45.000 milliards de $
3- Arabie Saoudite : 34.400 milliards de $
4 – Canada : 33.200 milliards de $
5 – Iran : 27.300 milliards de $
6 – Chine – 23.000 milliards de $
7 – Brésil : 21.800 milliards de $
8 – Australie : 19.900 milliards de $
9 – Irak : 15.900 milliards de $
10 – Venezuela : 14.300 milliards de $
Voici les places respectives de ces pays dans les principaux minerais (c’est-à-dire ceux présents dans les différentes versions du jeu de société Richesses du Monde) :

Notons que seuls la Chine, la Russie et le Brésil sont présents dans la totalité des productions (tous classés dans les BRICS), que les Etats-Unis ne font défaut que pour le tungstène et le Canada pour la bauxite et le plomb. A contrario, l’Irak n’est présent que pour le pétrole. L’or noir joue un rôle majeur dans le calcul de ces réserves, en compagnie du gaz naturel, car tous les pays sont de gros producteurs de pétrole (sauf l’Australie) ou de gaz (sauf l’Irak). Il est intéressant de voir que dans les pays les moins bien dotés en minerais mais fort bien en hydrocarbures, on trouve comme par hasard l’Irak, l’Iran, l’Arabie Saoudite et le Venezuela, enjeu de toutes les rivalités entre Oceania, Eurasia et Estasia… D’autre pays également pourrait figurer dans cette liste : le Mexique (1er mondial en argent), l’Indonésie, l’Afrique du Sud, voire la République Démocratique du Congo (56 % de la production mondiale de cobalt).
Quelques petits pays peuvent se hisser en tête de diverses productions : les Philippines 1er mondial en nickel, le Chili 1er mondial en cuivre. La Nouvelle-Calédonie, dont le sort sera bientôt fixé (indépendance ou non), pointe au 5e rang mondial en nickel et 2e en cobalt. Deux petits pays commencent à faire leur apparition : le Guatemala (12e en argent et 11e en nickel) et Madagascar (7e en cobalt et 12e en nickel, en sus de son 1er rang mondial pour les saphirs).
