Il y’en avait 49 au dernier recensement de 2007 depuis la création du concept pat l’ONU en 1971. Ils avaient même été 51, mais le Botswana les quitta en 1994 et Cap Vert en 2007. Les PMA (Pays les Moins Avancés, « shit countries » pour Donald John Trump) sont désormais trois de moins et un de plus (pour cause d’indépendance). Les 47 PMA sont répartis ainsi : Afrique : 33, Asie : 9, Océanie : 4 et Amérique du Nord : 1. Le nouveau-venu est le Soudan du Sud et les trois heureux « enrichis » sont les Maldives, Samoa et la Guinée Equatoriale. Par rapport au dernier article, la situation a évolué par disparition du concept de tiers-monde au profit de pays en voue de développement, une nouvelle catégorie apparaissant, les « pays en transition », à mi-chemin entre les pays en voie de développement et ceux développés. Voici la répartition des économies mondiales, y compris les sous-catégories.
