Angela Pellicciari est une essayiste et historienne italienne, auteur d’une dizaine d’ouvrages dont Martin Luther, la face cachée d’un révolutionnaire.
Elle nous dresse ici une synthèse des condamnations pontificales à l’encontre de la franc-maçonnerie et les replace dans leur contexte historique respectif.
La franc-maçonnerie naît officiellement à Londres le 24 juin 1717. La première condamnation pontificale ne date que de quelques années plus tard : Clément XII publie l’encyclique In eminenti le 28 avril 1738, vingt et un ans après la formation de la Grande Loge de Londres. Depuis les déclarations pontificales antimaçonniques n’ont pas manqué. Il ne fait aucun doute que les successeurs de Pierre ont décelé dans la franc-maçonnerie ses différents aspects maléfiques. Les différents papes évaluent avec une grande appréhension le mal religieux et civil provoqué par la pensée des loges qui est de fait révolutionnaire et anticatholique.
Le livre contient plusieurs encycliques essentielles dans le combat contre les sectes maçonniques. Relisons Clément XII, Benoît XIV, Pie VI, Pie VII, Léon XII, Pie VIII, Grégoire XVI, Pie IX et Léon XIII condamnant tous avec la plus grande fermeté les agissements de ces forces occultes.
L’ouvrage se termine par un terrible récit écrit par Mgr Daniel Comboni (1831-1881), missionnaire, relatant comment il fut conduit au chevet d’un franc-maçon pour l’entendre en confession quelques instants avant d’être mis à mort. Il avait été condamné à mort par un tribunal maçonnique pour avoir refusé d’assassiner un vénérable Prélat !
