Selon le calendrier vaccinal 2017 désormais les hommes ayant des rapports sexuels avec les hommes (HSH) ou plus simplement les homosexuels actifs peuvent bénéficier du Gardasil le vaccin contre papillomavirus qui était jusqu’à présent responsable du cancer du col de l’utérus. Il est imputé à ce virus chez cette frange de population les cancers anaux (risque multiplié par dix par rapport aux hétéros) ; mais aussi entre le quart et la moitié des verrues génitales, des cancers ORL et du pénis liés aux pratiques sexuelles des HSH.
Ce vaccin est désormais réservé aux jeunes filles de 11 à 14 ans. Le nouveau vaccin qui sera remboursé immunise contre neuf souches du microbe. Mais comme il existe de nouvelles souches le suivi par frottis du col doit continuer. (Fréquence médicale, 25/04/2017). Noter que ce vaccin a été accusé d’être responsable de sclérose en plaques et de la maladie de Guillain-Barré (paralysies). Il ne serait de toute manière efficace que dans 75 % des infections.
