Les Misérables, célèbre roman de Victor Hugo, a été adapté au petit écran par la BBC. Le résultat est pour le moins surprenant. Comme c’est devenu l’habitude à la BBC, cette mini série en six parties transforme l’histoire pour y inclure le multiculturalisme.
Ainsi, parmi les acteurs principaux, Dominic West (« The Affair ») incarne Jean Valjean. Lily Collins (« Blanche-Neige) se glisse dans la peau de Fantine et Ellie Bomber endosse le rôle de Cosette. Quant au rôle de Javert, il est interprété par… l’acteur noir David Oyelowo (« Selma »).
Quand au couvent, il compte déjà des religieuses noires…
Le téléspectateur inculte pourra donc déduire de cette production de la BBC que la France du dix-neuvième siècle était déjà multiculturelle.
Déjà en 2015, l’adaptation des Misérables à Broadway s’était faite avec l’acteur noir Jean-Baptiste Kyle dans le rôle de Jean Valjean.
