Kenya – L’Université de Garissa a été ce matin la cible d’une attaque revendiquée par les islamistes somaliens du Shebab.
L’attaque a fait au moins deux morts et 29 blessés selon les estimations provisoires de la Croix-Rouge.
Selon le communiqué de la police kenyane, l’attaque était menée par cinq hommes lourdement armés qui ont « tués deux gardes placés à l’entrée du campus (…) avant de tirer sans discrimination une fois à l’intérieur de l’université ». « Des policiers surveillant les résidences universitaires ont entendu les coups de feu et sont rapidement intervenus, échangeant des tirs intenses avec les assaillants (sans réussir à les empêcher) de pénétrer dans les résidences (abritant les chambres des étudiants) ».
Les assaillants ont fait irruption dans l’université de Garissa vers 5h30, heure locale (GMT+3) alors que des étudiants se rendaient à l’église pour la messe du matin.
