Les États-Unis ont évacué samedi tout leur personnel diplomatique de leur ambassade en Libye en raison des violents affrontements dans la capitale, a annoncé le département d’État.
L’ambassade fonctionnait déjà avec un personnel réduit, mais Washington a décidé d’évacuer l’équipe restante sur place, qui s’est rendue par la route en Tunisie pour se mettre en sécurité, quelques heures après que le gouvernement libyen a mis en garde contre l’effondrement de l’État alors que les combats font toujours rage entre milices rivales à Tripoli pour le 13ème jour consécutif. Pour le secrétaire d’État américain John Kerry, qui se trouve à Paris, il y avait un risque réel pour les agents américains.
Le département d’État a précisé que le personnel (diplomatique) travaillera depuis Washington et d’autres endroits dans la région.
Le département d’État a également diffusé un nouvel avertissement de voyage, recommandant aux citoyens américains de ne pas se rendre en Libye et pressant tous ses ressortissants sur place de quitter immédiatement le pays.
