Les enquêteurs espagnols ont révélé que la cellule terroriste qui a commis les attaques sur les Ramblas de Barcelone et à Cambrils avaient initialement l’intention de commettre un attentat contre la basilique Sagrada Familia.
La veille de l’attaque sur les Ramblas, une explosion accidentelle était survenue dans la maison qui abritait l’atelier de fabrication de bombes artisanales des terroristes à Alcanar. Au moins un des membres de cette cellule terroriste avait trouvé la mort dans cette explosion qui a précipité le passage à l’acte du groupe.
Les enquêteurs ont trouvé à Alcanar 120 bonbonnes de gaz et des traces de TATP. Les éléments de l’enquête permettent de comprendre que le plan initial de cette cellule terroriste composée de jeunes Marocains était de faire sauter trois véhicules bourrés d’explosifs.
La basilique Sagrada Familia, construite par l’architecte Gaudi et très visitée par les touristes, figurait parmi les cibles de ces terroristes islamistes.
