Frédéric Chassagne, actuellement directeur d’un lycée dans le Bordelais, est un lecteur assidu de Léon Bloy depuis plus de trente-cinq ans.
Il a donc entrepris de sélectionner des écrits de ce Léon Bloy (1846-1917), romancier, essayiste et pamphlétaire qui se convertit au catholicisme en 1869 sous l’influence de l’écrivain Jules Barbey d’Aurevilly.
Attention, Bloy n’est pas un humaniste, il n’adore ni le progrès, ni la science, ni la démocratie. Ses coups de colère sont restés célèbres, au point d’être qualifié souvent d’intolérant ou de fanatique. Il affirme volontiers son » catholicisme intransigeant » contre les raisonnables chrétiens que le Surnaturel incommode. Il se considère » désigné pour vociférer la gloire de Dieu « .
