Les organisateurs de l’Open d’Australie ont annoncé ce vendredi que Margaret Court ne se rendrait pas à Melbourne pour assister à l’Open d’Australie (15-28 janvier).
« En tant qu’ancienne championne, Margaret avait été invitée à l’Open d’Australie. Nous avons appris qu’elle ne viendrait pas cette année« , ont déclaré les organisateurs du premier Grand Chelem de la saison dans des propos relayés par l’AFP.
La raison de cette absence est vraisemblablement le résultat des propos tenus par la championne australienne en mai dernier au moment du débat sur le mariage homosexuel en Australie.
Cette légende du tennis féminin, aux 24 titres du Grand Chelem (record absolu), avait notamment déclaré que le tennis était « plein de lesbiennes » et que les enfants transgenres étaient l’oeuvre « du diable« .
« C’est ce qu’Hitler a fait, et c’est ce que le communisme a fait : manipuler l’esprit des enfants. Il y a un complot dans notre nation et dans les nations du monde pour pervertir l’esprit de nos enfants« , avait ajouté Margaret Court.
