L’année 2016 est véritablement une période de mutation dans tous les domaines. Nous pouvons en particulier relever un événement majeur : le lancement par la Chine de son système de cotation de l’or en yuan. Afin de bien comprendre cette révolution en cours, il est nécessaire de rappeler les points suivants. Depuis les Accords de Bretton Woods en 1944, l’Amérique triomphante imposait son dollar s’appuyant sur l’or. Des problèmes divers (guerre du Vietnam, …) obligent l’administration Nixon à abandonner l’or comme référence en août 1971. Cette politique conduit à une augmentation astronomique des dollars en circulation de près de 2500% depuis les années 1970. Le choc pétrolier de 1973 permet de procéder à une mutation de l’or vers le pétrole. Désormais, le pétrole est la base de référence pour le dollar. C’est la naissance des pétrodollars. Les pays producteurs de pétrole (l’OPEP) acceptent, suite à « d’aimables » pressions de Washington, de vendre leur pétrole uniquement en dollar au détriment de monnaies européennes.
Les États européens sont donc dans l’obligation de posséder de grandes réserves en dollar pour acheter du pétrole. Le vieux continent est encore plus soumis à la dépendance des États-Unis.
Fortes de cet acquis, les autorités américaines n’ont pas hésité à s’endetter. L’endettement de l’État fédéral américain a dépassé le cap des 19 000 milliards de dollars. Parmi les détenteurs étrangers de cette dette, via les bons du Trésor américain, la Chine en est le premier acquéreur. Ces bons n’ont de valeur que celle du papier. La décision chinoise de baser le yuan sur l’or conduit donc tôt ou tard à un étranglement du dollar. En effet, Pékin refuse que son yuan/or soit convertible dans un dollar reposant sur un océan de dettes/papier.
Entre une valeur éternelle, l’or, et un dollar/papier, le système bancaire américain et occidental en général risque de connaître son Stalingrad financier.
