Un groupe de juifs religieux qui prétend avoir recomposé le Sanhédrin, la Haute Cour religieuse composée de 71 sages, a déclaré son intention de juger le pape François à moins qu’il ne revienne sur ses déclarations concernant la Palestine et ne présente ses excuses à Israël !
Le procès devrait se tenir le 9 septembre à 12h sur le Mont Sion et le jugement sera rendu le 20 septembre. Le Sanhédrin – qui se prend très au sérieux- prévient que si le Pape François choisit d’ignorer l’assignation, il sera jugé par contumace.
Le Sanhédrin a envoyé durant le mois de juin une convocation au Pape François. Cela a d’abord été rapporté par le magazine hébreu Matzav Haruach le 24 juin puis par d’autres médias israéliens comme Jewish Business News le 7 juillet, Breaking Israel News le 7 et le 17 juillet et Arutz Sheva le 24 août.
La convocation indiquait:
« Parce que le Vatican a reconnu l’organisation connue sous le nom de l’Autorité palestinienne en tant que nation, et a commencé à se référer à elle comme une nation dans ses documents. (…) Ces actions, à notre grande consternation, sont dans la continuité d’une longue série d’actions et de positions de la religion catholique romaine, qui a juré de persécuter Israël parce que nous avons refusé d’accepter leur Messie comme le Messie d’Israël, et de renoncer à notre foi. «
« Le tribunal doit juger le Pape en sa présence ou par contumace, et il est possible que le Vatican soit reconnu coupable d’antisémitisme (…) ».
Les représentants connus du Sanhédrin sont notamment Rabbi Yoel Schwartz, le rabbin Dov Levanoni, Rabbi Israël Ariel, le rabbin Daniel Stavsky, Rabbi Yehuda Edri, et Rabbi Dov Meir Shtein.
