Les éditions du Rocher ont eu l’excellente idée de publier une version en format de poche et à un prix très abordable du livre Le roman de Saint Louis écrit par Philippe de Villiers.
Ce livre confirme le talent de conteur de Philippe de Villiers. Ce qu’il avait déjà réussi en scénographie à travers les spectacles exceptionnels du Puy du Fou, il le réussit également à merveille sous la forme de biographies romanesques de grands personnages de l’Histoire de France. Après Le roman de Charette, voici Le roman de Saint Louis. Dans les deux cas, il s’agit de véritables héros dont l’épopée est un témoignage de Foi mais aussi d’amour de la France.
Si l’ouvrage se veut fidèle à la vérité historique, il n’en est pas moins vrai qu’il s’agit d’un roman que l’auteur écrit à la première personne du singulier. Puisant dans l’œuvre abondante des premiers chroniqueurs de Saint Louis ( le sénéchal de Joinville, les religieux qui furent le confesseur, l’aumônier et le chroniqueur du roi, le confesseur de la Reine Marguerite et de Blanche de France, etc), Philippe de Villiers a amassé quantité de faits qu’il restitue à sa façon. L’objectif avoué de l’auteur étant de fournir un Saint Louis de chair, à figure humaine.
S’il ne s’agit donc pas à proprement parler d’une biographie historique, ce livre offrira néanmoins de beaux moments de détente auprès d’un roi exceptionnel.
