Même si la chanson originale est des Mamas & Papas, c’est la version des « plagistes » qui a donné l’image d’Epinal de la Californie que nous connaissons, plus ou moins fantasmée, avec ses palmiers, ses surfeurs, sa jeunesse dorée…
En 2018, le rêve californien est devenu un cauchemar : submergée ethniquement, victime de lois écolos délirantes provoquant des pannes fréquentes d’électricité comme une vulgaire nation du tiers-monde, la Californie est tout simplement considérée en 2018 comme le pire état américain en matière de qualité de vie ! Voici le classement des 50 états pour la qualité de vie, avec entre parenthèse leur couleur politique (R signifie républicain, D démocrate et I indépendant, la lettre à gauche indiquant la couleur du gouverneur et celle de droite le vote aux présidentielles de 2016) :
