Costanza Miriano est une journaliste italienne atypique, catholique, féminine mais pas féministe, dont les précédents livres Marie-toi et sois soumise et Epouse-la et meurs pour elle (éditions Le Centurion) sont des best-sellers traduits en plusieurs langues.
Elle nous revient avec un livre qui s’adresse d’abord aux femmes mais qu’il n’est pas inintéressant pour un homme de lire. Sous la forme de lettres adressées à ses filles et ses amies, elle invite toutes les femmes – mais aussi les hommes – à réfléchir sur le modèle de femmes qui nous est proposé aujourd’hui, qui remporte de plus en plus de succès, mais qui ne fonctionne pas. Pourquoi, maintenant que les femmes ont conquis, du moins dans cette partie du monde, le droit de tout avoir, sont-elles malheureuses quand même ? Voire plus qu’auparavant ? Le féminisme aurait-il trompé les femmes ?
Avec humour mais aussi profondeur, Costanza Miriano apporte des réponses en évoquant en fait quelque chose qui concerne toutes les femmes de toutes les époques et qui est lié à leur vocation de femme, d’épouse et de mère, constituant un mystère précieux, une capacité à faire de la place aux autres, à conduire l’homme à la grandeur, et une fécondité qui peut transformer la souffrance en bénédiction.
