Le prince Laurent, frère cadet du roi des Belges et personnage atypique de la famille royale, a expliqué au cours d’une interview être fasciné par la langue arabe et la faire apprendre à ses enfants.
Une dame vient à la résidence princière enseigner l’arabe aux enfants du prince Laurent. Des amis arabophones sont également invités à la maison, ajoute le prince qui, personnellement, dit lire l’arabe sans le parler.
« Non, je ne me suis pas converti », assure-t-il pour répondre à une rumeur sur sa conversion à l’islam. Le prince Laurent précise qu’il a lu le Coran et a été marqué par sa rencontre avec une femme musulmane.
Il y a quelques années, le prince Laurent avais émis l’idée saugrenue de prendre pour parrain d’un de ses enfants un prince musulman. Difficile à admettre pour un baptême catholique !
