Une organisation en faveur de la vie, Generación Provida, a félicité le gouvernement du Paraguay pour avoir ratifié sa position de respect à la vie de l’enfant à naître depuis le moment de sa conception lors d’un examen imposé par l’ONU et qui a eu lieu à Genève, en Suisse, le 26 janvier dernier.
L’Examen Périodique Universel (EPU) est en effet une épreuve imposée par l’ONU, mais, elle est proposée par un groupe de pays, notamment l’Autriche, qui essaient de faire pression auprès des gouvernements d’Amérique Latine afin d’approuver des lois en faveur de l’avortement.
En ayant comme excuse la protection de la femme qui subit un viol et que, par conséquent, elle tombe enceinte, l’Autriche, la Slovénie, la Suisse et l’Australie, ont demandé à ce que le Paraguay rejette sa législation pro-vie et permette d’ores et déjà l’avortement dans le pays.
Néanmoins, cette demande du Conseil des droits de l’homme de l’ONU a été repoussée par le gouvernement du Paraguay en arguant que le gouvernement actuel « n’est pas d’accord avec la Constitution Nationale ni avec la Convention Interaméricaine des Droits de l’Homme ni avec la législation nationale car elles promeuvent l’avortement ».
L’organisation Generación Provida a déclaré que « le gouvernement du Paraguay s’est montré tellement ferme contre l’avortement et en faveur de la vie, que les représentants du Conseil de l’ONU ne veulent plus en reparler ».
