Eugenio Scalfari est un ancien député radical socialiste, fondateur en 1976 du journal La Repubblica. Il est co-fondateur en 1955 du Parti Radical anticlérical. Nonobstant le fait qu’il soit athée, il est ami du pape. Le pape l’a gratifié de plusieurs interviews ; toutefois la salle de presse du Vatican considérait ses rapports comme douteux.
Pour nous, c’est une vieille connaissance. Nous ne mentionnerons pas les discussions faits divers, politiques ou philosophiques entre les deux hommes. Il y en a 29 sur MPI. De notre côté nous avons archivé :
- Le 3 octobre 2013, La Repubblica avait publié sous sa plume une interview de François qui avait fait scandale notamment par sa déclaration suivante : « Chacun a sa conception du bien et du mal et chacun doit choisir et suivre le Bien et combattre le Mal selon l’idée qu’il s’en fait ». Chacun se fait donc sa propre morale… Il n’y a plus de vérité objective.
- Le site belge Diakonos.be donne l’information suivante rapportée par Eugenio Scalfari dans le journal La Republica du 9 octobre 2017 : « Le Pape François a aboli les lieux où les âmes sont censées aller après la mort : enfer, purgatoire et paradis… »
- En mars 2018, pendant la Semaine Sainte, dans La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana, Scalfari prétend annoncer une révolution dans l’enseignement de l’Eglise catholique ; il indique parler au nom du pape niant l’immortalité de l’âme humaine et l’existence de l’enfer.
Mieux encore, ce journaliste laïcard écrit que le pape a déclaré ne pas croire que Jésus Christ est vraiment Dieu et homme.
Dans le journal La Repubblica du mercredi 9 octobre 2019, il écrivait : «Ceux qui ont eu la chance, tout comme moi, de le rencontrer (le pape François) et de lui parler avec la plus grande confiance culturelle, savent que le pape François conçoit le Christ comme Jésus de Nazareth, un homme, et pas Dieu incarné. Une fois incarné, Jésus cesse d’être un Dieu et devient un homme jusqu’à sa mort sur la croix. »
Selon Scalfari, « lorsqu’il m’a été donné de discuter de ces phrases, le pape François m’a dit : « Elles sont la preuve définitive que Jésus de Nazareth, Une fois devenu homme, même s’il était d’une vertu exceptionnelle, il n’était pas du tout Dieu. » On retrouve ces phrases sur des dizaines de sites notamment en langue anglaise.
Nous nous trouverions donc avec un pape hérétique : ce sont les mots proclamés par l’hérésie arienne combattue victorieusement au IVème siècle par saint Athanase puis par Clovis ; elle dura deux siècles.
Le premier à réagir à cette effarante affirmation, ce sera l’archevêque Carlo Maria Vigano : il presse le pape de répondre personnellement aux déclarations de Scalfari : « Que votre oui soit oui. Que votre non soit non ! » selon les paroles de l’Évangile.
Le lendemain, Paolo Ruffini, préfet du dicastère de la Communication vaticane déclara que le pape « n’avait jamais dit ce que Scalfari avait écrit ».
Si ce que raconte Scalfari est exact, pourquoi le pape se tait-il. Si c’est inexact pourquoi François s’échine-t-il à recevoir cet ennemi de la religion. Cette question de bon sens – si nos souvenirs sont bons – lui avait déjà été posée y compris par le quotidien La Croix il y a quelques années.
