Nouvelle victoire pour le puissant lobby Lgbt : Chicago, la troisième plus grande ville des États-Unis s’est donnée un nouveau maire aux couleurs arc-en-ciel.
Nouvelle venue en politique, Lori Lightfoot, femme, noire et lesbienne, démocrate, âgée de 56 ans, l’a largement emporté, mardi dernier, avec 74% des voix, face à une autre démocrate, Toni Preckwinkle. avec un programme très progressiste, promettant notamment de réduire les inégalités sociales et raciales.
Avec plus de 550 meurtres en 2018, soit davantage que les chiffres combinés de New York et de Los Angeles, pourtant plus importantes en nombre d’habitants, Chicago connaît une violence endémique. C’est également une ville à large composante afro-américaine, 35,8 % de la population.
Dès le soir de son élection, Lori Lightfoot, sans surprise, a attaqué Donald Trump, l’actuel président des États-Unis.
