De la fin du 19e siècle au début des années 1930, un courant médiévaliste parcourt l’Europe. C’est la fièvre néogothique. En Alsace, comme ailleurs, ce goût médiéval s’incarne dans les grands monuments, les musées, les chansons et les airs d’opéra et jusqu’aux collections de figurines et de timbres. L’exposition Néogothique ! met en lumière la manière dont, à Strasbourg et dans toute l’Alsace, le Moyen Âge a inspiré artistes et savants, architectes, peintres ou fondateurs de l’Institut d’histoire médiévale de l’université. Néogothique ! est une invitation à revisiter et mieux comprendre ce style typique d’une époque, mais aussi toutes les controverses qu’il a pu susciter, autour de la rénovation du château du Haut-Koenigsbourg par exemple.
L’exposition Néogothique !, présentée à la BNU jusqu’au 28 janvier 2018, s’inscrit dans le programme Strasbourg, laboratoire d’Europe 1880-1930 porté par les Musées de la ville de Strasbourg et par l’Université de Strasbourg.
