Qui n’a pas vu sur une plage de l’Atlantique ou de la Manche une sorte de grand cerf-volant tractant un surfeur au milieux des vagues ? Qui n’a pas vu à cette occasion la planche décoller de plusieurs mètres pour revenir dans l’écume bouillonnante ?
Le kitesurf ou planche aérotractée est un sport difficile mais très séduisant par sa beauté et les sensations qu’il procure. Il s’agit d’une personne harnachée, glissant sur l’eau à l’aide d’une planche, et tractée par une voile. Le sportif se dirige grâce la barre à laquelle sont attachées les ficelles de direction de la voile.
Ce sport est récent, car il date des années 1970, mais sa commercialisation débute réellement à la fin des années 1990.
Les ventes d’ailes sont passées de 100 exemplaires en 1997 à 500 en 1998, 2 000 en 1999, 6 000 en 2000, 15 000 en 2001, environ 100 000 en 2010. Il y a 30 pratiquants en 1996 mais le nombre d’élèves passe de 500 en 1998 à 4 000 en 2001. Le premier championnat international a lieu en 2000 et le premier français, de freestyle, a lieu en 2001. Il y avait 12 000 pratiquants en France en 2010, 13000 licenciés en 2011 et entre 25000 et 30000 kitesurfers en France. (source wikipedia)
Aujourd’hui la panoplie des accessoires et des équipements s’est multipliée. Les équipement de base reste la planche, l’aile (comme ici), et la barre de direction. Mieux vaut également être équipé d’une bonne combinaison.
