Aventures d’un officier russe ou Le Diable Blanc de la Mer Noire a été publié pour la première fois en français chez Plon en 1925. Son auteur est resté anonyme. On sait néanmoins qu’il passa ses premières années dans le vaste domaine princier de ses parents et entra en 1900, à onze ans, dans le Corps des Pages de Sa Majesté Nicolas II. Des cavaliers cosaques lui apprirent à monter à cheval. En 1907, il s’engagea dans le régiment des Chevaliers-gardes de Sa Majesté l’Impératrice douairière. Il s’illustra bravement dès le début de la Première guerre mondiale, recevant la croix de Saint-Georges pour avoir fait sauter une station de chemin de fer à l’arrière des lignes ennemies.
Mais ce livre débute réellement un peu plus tard et raconte avec verve l’odyssée de cet officier russe à partir de la révolution de mars 1917 : l’abdication du tsar, l’anarchie, la Révolution d’octobre avec l’instauration de la dictature marxiste-léniniste, le soulèvement des Armées blanches, leur échec et leur écrasement. L’ouvrage se termine en 1919 en Crimée.
Les aventures de cet officier russe blanc emportent le lecteur dans une véritable épopée faite d’héroïsme et de bravoure et se lisent comme un roman. A lire et à faire lire pour se souvenir de ces braves jetés dans la tempête il y a tout juste cent ans.
