De passage à Bruxelles pour plaider, auprès des instances européennes, la cause des catholiques irakiens, victimes de persécutions et discriminations, le cardinal irakien Louis Raphaël Ier Sako, patriarche de l’Église catholique chaldéenne, s’est exprimé sur le « relativisme » de l’Europe :
« L’Europe a cédé au relativisme il y a bien longtemps. J’ai su qu’il n’y a plus de leçons de religion dans les écoles belges ou au maximum seulement des cours d’islam. Les Européens aiment parler d’« islamophobie » mais aujourd’hui il faudrait parler de « christianophobie » ! Dans tout le Moyen-Orient, les chrétiens sont prêts à mourir plutôt que de renier leur foi et en Europe beaucoup de musulmans sont prêts à mourir plutôt que de vivre dans un continent où les « infidèles » dictent les lois. L’Europe ne doit pas avoir honte de ses valeurs chrétiennes comme nous, chrétiens irakiens avons toujours défendu nos valeurs et nos racines… »
