Le Grand Rabbin de Russie Berel Lazar a reçu à Moscou Heinz-Christian Strache, chef du FPÖ, le parti de la droite nationale autrichienne.
Cette rencontre a aussitôt été relayée par Jewish News auquel un porte-parole de la Fédération des Communautés juives de Russie a expliqué que cette rencontre n’était pas un signe d’approbation des positionnements de Strache mais relevait d’un « devoir ».
« Le Rabbin Lazar est prêt à rencontrer tout le monde et à dialoguer avec tout le monde. Il a rencontré durant sa carrière des nationalistes russes et a constaté de bons résultats suite à ces échanges. Nous pensons que le débat est nettement préférable aux pogroms », a indiqué le porte-parole à Jewish News.
Mais cette rencontre a provoqué la colère et l’indignation des rabbins autrichiens. Le Rabbin Schlomo Hofmeister, à Vienne, a qualifié la réunion de “sidérante, bizarre, inquiétante”. Il a estimé que rencontrer les membres du FPÖ signifie “qu’ils sont casher”. « La simple question, c’est pourquoi et pourquoi faire ? Si l’intention est de gagner une sorte de reconnaissance ou de favoritisme politique de la part des fascistes, alors c’est tout simplement dégoûtant ».
Quant à Arie Folger, Grand Rabbin de Vienne, il a déclaré qu’il est possible que Strache soit plus ouvert aux Juifs mais que son parti “continue à récolter des gens qui ne nous aiment vraiment pas, ainsi que des gens qui, tout en nous appréciant peut-être, nous considèrent toutefois comme des dégâts collatéraux dans leur opposition aux Musulmans” sur des questions telles que l’abattage rituel.
