Le chef du renseignement américain en Allemagne, dont Berlin avait demandé le départ en raison de nouvelles suspicions d’espionnage par les Etats-Unis, a quitté le pays, a déclaré hier un porte-parole du ministère allemand des Affaires étrangères.
La CIA s’est refusée à tout commentaire alors qu’un représentant des autorités américaines avait déclaré auparavant à Reuters que cet espion devrait avoir quitté l’Allemagne avant la fin de cette semaine. Des représentants des autorités américaines ont souligné que le responsable de la CIA en Allemagne n’avait pas été expulsé ni déclaré « persona non grata » par le gouvernement allemand mais qu’il lui avait été demandé avec insistance de quitter le pays volontairement.
Berlin avait dit la semaine dernière avoir identifié un espion américain présumé au sein du ministère de la Défense quelques jours seulement après l’arrestation d’un agent du renseignement allemand soupçonné de travailler comme informateur de la CIA.
