Un article du site internet Businessinsider daté du 4 août publie les informations de l’étude du cabinet Mercer sur la qualité de vie de 231 villes mondiales. Pour établir son classement, Mercer a examiné 450 villes, en prenant en compte 39 critères : criminalité, gestion des déchets, accessibilité aux transports en commun, approvisionnement en électricité, disponibilité de services de téléphonie ou encore climat.

Sur les 30 premières villes du monde, les deux-tiers sont européennes. Le podium est composé de 3 villes européennes, Vienne, Zürich et Munich (à égalité avec Auckland, Nouvelle-Zélande). Il y a 7 villes allemandes dans les 30 premières, 5 villes australiennes, 4 villes suisses. Dans les 24 premières villes européennes, Paris est 22^e, Lyon 23^e, classées respectivement aux 39^e et 40^e places mondiales. Pointe-à Pitre, la métropole de la Guadeloupe, est quant à elle classée 73^e mondiale, entre Hong Kong et Dubaï… Nouméa est à la 109^e place, entre Brasilia et Doha.
