Mgr Salvatore Cordileone, archevêque de San Francisco, est un ferme défenseur de la Famille et du mariage. Il n’a pas hésité à déclarer que l’homosexualité est «auto-destructrice» et a qualifié la dénaturation du mariage de «néfaste pour les individus et pour la société dans son ensemble».
A sa demande, une convention entre le diocèse et les professeurs des écoles catholiques rappelle désormais que l’homosexualité est «contraire à la loi naturelle». La convention rappelle d’autres principes, notamment que le mariage est l’union d’un homme et d’une femme et que les lois civiles ne devraient pas déroger à cette règle. La convention rappelle aussi que l’Eglise catholique condamne la procréation médicalement assistée et la gestation pour autrui qualifiés de «graves maux».
Mgr Salvatore Cordileone a voulu ainsi rappeler aux enseignants des écoles catholiques la mission de l’école et la façon dont l’enseignement y est prodigué. Ceci ne devrait pas choquer puisqu’il s’agit simplement de «l’expression du catéchisme de l’Eglise catholique».
