L’initiateur du projet est un citoyen anglais de 29 ans nommé Thom Feeney. Son idée ? Faire appel au financement participatif (le « crowdfunding » pour les adeptes des anglicismes) pour rembourser la dette de la Grèce à l’égard du FMI, soit 1,6 milliard d’euros. L’idée relève de l’utopie, bien sûr. Mais qui aurait imaginé que le projet GreekBailout parviendrait à récolter plus de 1,890 million d’euros en huit jours grâce à la participation de plus de 106.000 donateurs ? Insuffisant mais surprenant.
