En l’an 1429, il fallait un miracle pour sauver la France. Dieu fit le miracle et, pour que sa puissance éclate aux regards les moins clairvoyants, c’est des rangs les plus modestes de la classe populaire qu’il fit surgir l’instrument de sa miséricorde. En 1455, s’ouvre le procès de réhabilitation de sainte Jeanne d’Arc. Où? A Notre Dame. « Notre Dame de Paris n’est pas seulement un édifice, c’est une personne » (Paul Claudel. Une personne témoin de notre histoire, de notre foi. Bien peu d’églises ont atteint sa perfection: merveilleux équilibre de ses proportions, harmonie de sa façade. Il y a vingt siècles qu’on prie en ce lieu: temple gallo-romain, basilique chrétienne, église romane puis cathédrale Notre Dame fondée par l’évêque Maurice de Sully. En 1239, Saint Louis y dépose la Sainte Couronne d’épines en attendant que la Sainte Chapelle soit prête. Cérémonies, actions de grâces, services funèbres, Te Deum, processions, vont s’y succéder de siècle en siècle.
