Bien que l’Islam soit la religion majoritaire dans de nombreux pays d’Afrique, notamment au nord d’une ligne Conakry-Djibouti, la religion chrétienne est présente dans tous les pays, parfois réduite à plus grand-chose (officiellement, il ne reste plus qu’une centaine de chrétiens en Somalie), que ce soit sous sa forme catholique, protestante ou orthodoxe. L’Afrique ayant été totalement colonisée (on peut considérer le Liberia comme une quasi-colonie américaine), on peut mettre en parallèle la religion du colonisateur et celle dominante aujourd’hui.
