L’année 2014 commence mal pour Anthony Cortès qui était le chef du Mouvement des jeunes socialistes des Pyrénées-Orientales. Il a été contraint de démissionner après avoir soutenu l’humoriste Dieudonné au nom de la liberté d’expression.
Depuis août 2013, Anthony Cortès était animateur départemental du Mouvement des jeunes socialistes (MJS). Il était intervenu, il y a quelques jours via son compte Twitter (@antho_Cortes), expliquant avoir « honte de (son) ministre de l’Intérieur » Manuel Valls et de sa volonté d’interdire les spectacles de l’humoriste. Ceux qui « favorisent le trouble à l’ordre public ne sont pas ceux que l’on croit », ajoutait-il.
Un seul tweet et une carrière politique disparaît… Anthony Cortès, qui a depuis effacé ses commentaires, dit avoir « voulu défendre la liberté d’expression ». Mais l’affaire Dieudonné est devenue un enjeu politique qui le dépasse. « J’ai démissionné parce que ça prenait trop d’ampleur », a-t-il déclaré en parlant des remous suscités après la parution d’un article sur le sujet dans le quotidien l’Indépendant et les demandes de démission émanant de son mouvement.
Anthony Cortès, 22 ans, regrette avoir « parlé au nom » du MJS, dont il est membre depuis deux ans. Il n’est plus question pour lui de participer à la campagne pour les municipales, « avec l’étiquette négative qu’on m’a donnée de soutien de Dieudonné ».
Le député Jacques Cresta, responsable départemental du PS, avait souhaité la démission d’Anthony Cortès.
