Les interviews de l’acteur Jim Caviezel méritent généralement qu’on y prête attention. C’est l’une des très rares stars américaines du cinéma qui affirme publiquement sa foi catholique. Personnage central du film La Passion du Christ réalisé par Mel Gibson, il occupe à nouveau une place essentielle dans le film Paul, apôtre du Christ.
A ce titre, il répondait récemment aux questions de CNA (Catholic News Agency), précisant qu’il s’était appuyé sur les saintes Écritures, la messe quotidienne et le chapelet pour tenter d’incarner correctement saint Luc sur grand écran dans le film Paul, l’apôtre du Christ. Le film présente la persécution des premiers chrétiens à Rome sous l’empereur Néron, avec un saint Paul emprisonné transmettant un message d’espoir à la fin de sa vie. Saint Luc rend régulièrement visite à saint Paul en prison pour lui poser des questions sur son histoire et son apostolat au service du Christ.
Le film montre saint Luc au service de la communauté chrétienne primitive de Rome, tenant le rôle de médecin, de guide spirituel et d’écrivain. Saint Luc a mentionné la Vierge Marie plus que tout autre écrivain , fait remarquer Jim Caviezel qui ajoute :
« Le Rosaire m’aide à me concentrer, à prier. Je vais à la messe tous les jours et l’Eucharistie est le Christ en moi. (…) Ce que je fais est toujours avec l’aide du Ciel. Il dirige mon chemin, me guide. Ce que j’offre à Dieu, je le tire du don qu’il m’a donné. Et le Seigneur le multiplie et le bénit d’une manière que je n’aurais jamais crue possible. »
Eric Groth, le producteur exécutif du film, a également déclaré à CNA :
« Nous avons composé le scénario pendant des périodes terribles avec Daech et les problèmes qui se posent en Syrie et au Moyen-Orient. Le film est dédié aux chrétiens persécutés dans le monde. »
