Le monastère de Belval n’est plus occupé par les sœurs cisterciennes depuis 2012. L’association Vie active y loge depuis le mois d’août des immigrés.
L’abbaye de Belval est en effet devenue l’un des deux CAES (Centres d’Accueil et d’Examen des Situations), avec celui de Bailleul (Nord), dont le ministre de l’intérieur Gérard Collomb avait annoncé la création, le 31 juillet 2017. Ces nouvelles structures sont la réponse gouvernementale à la décision rendue par le Conseil d’État, jugeant que les conditions de vie des migrants à Calais révélaient une « carence des autorités publiques ».
Les immigrés sont logés dans l’ancien logis des religieuses et dans l’ancienne aumônerie, au milieu d’un parc boisé de douze hectares, excusez du peu.
