Selon des informations de l’Est Républicain,entre lundi après-midi et mardi matin des vandales ont dérobé des casques en laiton des bornes qui jalonnent la Voie Sacrée de Verdun. Les vandales ont sans doute agi en employant une sorte de masse ou un objet lourd et contondant car les traces sont profondes sur le métal d’un casque qui n’a pas pu être retiré. Cette borne est située à quelques kilomètres de Souilly en direction de Bar-le-Duc au niveau d’une aire de stationnement. Deux autres casques ont subi les mêmes dégradations. Quatre autres bornes ont été attaquées à la masse et le casque y a été dérobé.
On peut imaginer la stupeur et l’émotion des acteurs de la mémoire dans ce coin de la France après cette profanation qui coïncide avec le centenaire de la Première Guerre Mondiale. Une enquête a été ouverte par la gendarmerie pour trouver les auteurs de cette profanation. Ce sera peut-être l’occasion de découvrir leur mobile. Notons que cette profanation inadmissible n’a guère fait réagir nos politiques et on ne peut que le regretter.
