Donald Trump, président de la plus grande puissance mondiale, censuré… par Twitter ! C’est dire la super-puissance des réseaux sociaux dans le monde politique post-moderne.
Avec plus de 80 millions d’abonnés, Trump est largement actif sur Twitter, une manière de contourner la censure ou malhonnêteté de la presse mainstream à son égard.
Mais depuis plus de deux semaines un véritable bras de fer est engagé entre Trump et Twitter.
Le réseau social, dont le patron Jack Dorsey est un opposant politique de Trump et s’affiche comme un soutien des Démocrates américains, a décidé dernièrement, selon une modération toute subjective, de s’en prendre au président américain en signalant deux de ses tweets contre le vote par correspondance comme « trompeurs », en en masquant un troisième sur les affrontements de Minneapolis en le considérant comme une « apologie de la violence », et en désactivant une vidéo d’un autre tweet « suite à un signalement du détenteur des droits d’auteur ».

En réponse à ces attaques répétées, qui sont des attaques politiques, Trump s’active désormais pour limiter le pouvoir des plateformes. Le président américain a frappé un grand coup jeudi 28 mai en signant un décret visant à limiter la protection judiciaire des réseaux sociaux afin explique-t-il de « défendre la liberté d’expression ».
