François-Emmanuel Brézet, ancien officier de marine et docteur en histoire, est l’auteur de plusieurs ouvrages consacrés à la marine militaire allemande durant la seconde guerre mondiale.
Les éditions Perrin viennent d’éditer en format poche, dans leur collection Tempus, La traque du Bismarck qui retrace les derniers jours d’un mythe, celui du cuirassé Bismarck, mis sur cale le 1er juillet 1936 et lancé à l’eau le 14 février 1939 lors d’une cérémonie présidée par Adolf Hitler en personne. Il s’agissait du premier grand cuirassé de la Kriegsmarine. Son commandement fut confié au capitaine de vaisseau Ernst Lindemann, canonnier dans l’âme. Engagé en 1941 dans l’opération Rheinübung avec pour mission d’attaquer, simultanément avec des sous-marins, des convois britanniques, le Bismarck envoie par le fond le HMS Hood et endommage gravement le HMS Prince of Wales au cours du combat du détroit de Danemark. Mais atteint par différents coups, le Bismarck doit interrompre sa mission et va tenter de faire route vers un port. C’est ainsi que débute une traque fatale ordonnée par l’Amirauté britannique. La poursuite va combiner l’alliance de différents bâtiments de guerre, d’avions de reconnaissance aérienne et d’avions torpilleurs. Voici le récit haletant de cette traque qui se terminera par la destruction du fleuron de la Kriegsmarine.
