La plaque de marbre qui recouvre le tombeau de Notre-Seigneur Jésus-Christ dans l’église du Saint Sépulcre à Jérusalem vient d’être déplacée, pendant trois jours, afin de permettre des travaux de restauration. Cela n’était pas arrivé depuis deux siècles.
En 1810, suite à un incendie, des travaux avaient été entrepris pareillement sur le tombeau. « C’est émouvant car c’est quelque chose dont nous parlons depuis des siècles », a indiqué le Père Samuel Aghovan, le supérieur de l’église arménienne.
Ces travaux s’inscrivent dans le projet de restauration dans l’église qui a débuté en mai et est financé par les trois principales confessions chrétiennes qui ont la garde du Saint-Sépulcre, Grecs-Orthodoxes, Catholiques, Arméniens, ainsi que par des contributions publiques.
D’après le National Geographic, la possibilité d’avoir accès au tombeau « va fournir aux chercheurs une occasion sans précédent d’étudier la surface d’origine de ce qui est considéré comme le site le plus sacré du christianisme. »
