Le président du gouvernement slovaque Robert Fico a annoncé, le 24 février 2016, vouloir renforcer la surveillance de la frontière avec l’Autriche.
« Après la décision de Vienne de réduire le nombre de demandeurs d’asile, nous sommes prêts à prendre des mesures techniques pour protéger notre frontière avec l’Autriche », a fait savoir Robert Fico. Si des pays comme l’Autriche commencent à prendre des mesures unilatérales qui pourraient avoir pour conséquence de grossir le flux de réfugiés, la Slovaquie se sent donc parfaitement autorisée à faire de même. Selon Fico, cette démarche ne saurait néanmoins être la réponse optimale, il serait préférable de renforcer les frontières extérieures de l’espace Schengen.
« La Slovaquie n’a pas fait d’erreur dans la lutte contre l’immigration clandestine et n’entend donc pas être pénalisée pour les erreurs des autres. Nous sommes prêts, en cas de nécessité, à prendre des mesures de sécurité pour un délai limité sur le tronçon que l’on désigne sous le nom de triangle Slovaquie-Hongrie-Autriche », a prévenu le ministre-président.
Il s’agit en l’occurrence de l’érection de barrières visant à canaliser les réfugiés vers les points de contrôle, à renforcer la sécurisation de la frontière et à arrêter d’éventuels groupes de migrants importants.
