Les experts avaient mis en garde: nous entrons dans un engrenage qui pourrait se révéler dangereux. C’est bien ce qui semble être le cas puisque la Russie a publié à son tour sa propre liste de sanctions contre des responsables américains, en réponse au gel des avoirs et des visas. Certains sont interdits désormais d’entrée sur le territoire russe: trois conseillers de M. Obama, Caroline Atkinson, Daniel Pfeiffer et Benjamin Rhodes, le chef de la majorité démocrate Harry Reid, le chef républicain de la Chambre John Boehner, le président de la commission des Affaires étrangères au Sénat, Robert Menendez, ainsi que le sénateur conservateur John McCain, la sénatrice démocrate Mary Landrieu et le sénateur Daniel Coats. On se rappelle que le sénateur McCain était venu soutenir les insurgés de la place Maidan au mois de février. Le Ministres des Affaires Étrangères a mis en garde:« Qu’il n’y ait aucun doute: à chaque acte hostile nous répondrons de manière adéquate.Nous n’avons cessé d’avertir que l’emploi de sanctions est à double-tranchant et touchera les Etats-Unis eux-mêmes comme un boomerang ». Pour l’instant l’Europe n’est pas concerné mais cela ne devrait tarder surtout que François Hollande vient d’annoncer l’annulation du sommet UE-Russie, prévu en juin. Cela pourrait se révéler plus pénalisant que pour les Américains.
